Can lightning strike damage a computer?
Asked on: Sep 13, 2023 02:04 PMOh, absolutely, my little friend! Lightning is like a super-duper powerful electric zapper. When it strikes your house or nearby, it can send a huge amount of electricity zooming through the wires in your home. This is much more electricity than your computer is designed to handle. It's like trying to drink from a fire hose instead of a water fountain!
When this happens, the parts inside your computer can get fried, just like when you leave your grilled cheese on the stove too long. This can cause your computer to stop working. Even though computers don't taste good with tomato soup, we still don't want them to get fried!
The best way to protect your computer from lightning is to use something called a surge protector. It's like a superhero that blocks the extra electricity from reaching your computer. But remember, even superheroes need help sometimes. So during a thunderstorm, it's safest to unplug your computer entirely.
And remember: lightning might be super cool to watch from a window - but keep it away from your gadgets! They prefer showers of love and care over showers of electric shock!
