How do toe nails grow?
Asked on: Sep 14, 2023 06:14 PMToe-tally awesome question! Toe nails, just like your hair, are made of a tough protein called keratin. They grow from an area at the base of the nail called the matrix. Imagine this as a little factory buried under your skin that's working overtime to push out new cells. As these cells pile up, they harden and form your toe nail.
Now, you might be wondering why we even have toe nails? Back in the days when we were hanging out with mammoths and saber-toothed tigers, they helped protect our toes and improve our grip when running or climbing. Today, they're mostly just there for decorating with pretty polish or scratching an itch!
Keep in mind that how fast your toe nails grow can depend on a bunch of factors like your age, health, diet and even the time of year. For example, nails tend to grow faster in summer than winter. Isn't that un-be-leaf-able?
