What is the biggest tree?
Asked on: Sep 13, 2023 03:34 PMWell kiddo, the biggest tree in the whole wide world is called General Sherman. Now, don't get confused, it's not a real general with a shiny helmet and a big sword. It's a tree! A giant sequoia tree to be exact. This big guy lives in California, in the United States, and it's so tall that if you stacked about 275 five-year-olds on each other's shoulders (not that we should try this), they might just reach the top!
General Sherman is not just tall, but also very wide. Its trunk is so thick that you could park about 20 bicycles side by side inside it! Can you imagine that? And guess what? It's also very old - over 2,000 years old! That means it was already a big tree when Julius Caesar was bossing people around in Rome.
So remember next time you're climbing trees in the park: General Sherman started out as tiny as the smallest sapling. Maybe one day, one of those little trees will grow up to challenge our heavyweight champion!
Isn't nature awesome?
