Why do I have to wear glasses?
Asked on: Sep 13, 2023 06:53 PMWell, kiddo, think of your eye like a camera. A camera needs to focus light just right to take clear pictures, right? Your eyes work the same way! They need to bend (or "refract") light just right so you can see clearly. But sometimes, our eyes aren't perfect at doing this job. So, we need a little help from our friend Mr. Glasses.
Now, why might your eyes need glasses? It could be because you have something called "nearsightedness" or "farsightedness". If you're nearsighted, you can see things close up pretty well, but things far away look blurry. Like when you're trying to read the chalkboard at school from the back of the class! Farsightedness is the opposite - things close up are blurry and things far away are clear.
Or it could be because of something called "astigmatism", which is a fancy word that means your eye isn't perfectly round. It's more like a football shape. This makes light bend unevenly when it enters your eye causing some parts of what you look at to be blurry.
So, wearing glasses helps correct these issues by bending the light in just the right way before it enters your eye, helping you see clearly! It's like giving your eyes superpowers!
Oh and one more thing! Remember how I said your eyes are like cameras? Well, just like how photographers take care of their cameras by cleaning them and protecting them with cases...we should take care of our glasses too! So make sure to clean them regularly and don't sit on them!
